Charlestown State Forest (812) 256-5600
  Indiana's newest state park is home to blue birds, black vultures, Bald Eagles and a variety of other bird species.  Scenic vistas of the Fourteen Mile Creek Valley, Devonian Fossil outcrops and area of sinkhole topography are seen along the park hiking trails.
Entrance Fee: $2 per day or $18 annually
Hours: Open Daily 7 a.m. till dusk

Clark State Forest (812) 294-4306
 

Clark State Forest, established in 1903, is the oldest state forest in Indiana. The original appropriations to purchase a 2,000 acre tract took place during the administration of Governor Winfield Durbin. In the ensuing 96 years, additional acquisitions have increased this area to the present 24,000 acres. Much of this land was originally part of Clark's Grant, lands provided by a clause in the Virginia Cession of Claims to the Northwest Territory on December 20, 1783.

Deam Lake Recreation Park (812) 246-5421
  This state recreation area has picnic faciilites, hiking trails, a beach and a 286-site modern campground.  Rowboat rentals are offered.  Hunting is allowed in some areas.
Entrance Fees: Fees only charged between Memorial and Labor Day.

Falls of the Ohio State Park (812)280-9970

 

Falls of The Ohio are the world's largest exposed Devonian-age fossil bed. Known for its 350-400 million year old fossilized coral reef, rich history, and extensive bird,fish and wildlife.The Interpretive Center includes an exhibit hall, library, wildlife observation room, observation deck and an auditorium.  Guided tours can be arranged; however, visitors are welcome to tour the Interpretive center and the fossil bed on their own
